the lesson I learned from a $500 pair of shoes

Aug 10, 2019

These are shoes by SJP (Sex in the City’s Sarah Jessica Parker). I didn’t look at the price tag but I believe they were around $500CAN (if I’m wrong, please post the amount below cause I’m kicking myself for not looking now ...). ⠀

I had intended to walk past the store. ⠀

I had no intention of paying $500 for a pair of shoes, when I don’t have an event to wear them to, a dress to go with them or a husband who would see this as an investment like some will suggest. (Ok I gotta say I’m with him on this one ... unless they appreciate in value, how ARE shoes an investment?!) ⠀
I had no intention of purchasing ANY shoes yesterday, let alone expensive ones, but something pulled me in. I admired the wall of shoes, the ribbon at the back that is SJP’s signature (it’s a ribbon that runs up the back of the shoe ... you can see it stick up like a small tab on my foot that is turned, in this picture) and the decor of the store. When the salesperson offered for me to try them on, I declined. ⠀

WHY?⠀

Because in that moment, I focused on “lack”. Instead of trying them on, feeling my foot in Italian leather and stepping into the million dollar version of myself who WOULD buy a $500 pair of shoes, I played small. I became the $100 version of myself who could never even consider buying these shoes.⠀

The great thing though is that I recognized it and I changed it.⠀

After an almond milk latte, I went back to SJP and tried on these shoes. They felt wonderful. The salespeople were lovely. I loved sitting on the beautiful couch so I could try them on, seeing the satin bag that comes WITH these shoes and touching them so very delicately because I knew that they were “special”. THAT became the experience for me. THAT was me stepping into the million dollar version of myself and in that moment ... I DECIDED. ⠀

In that moment I realized that I am an entrepreneur and that if I truly CHOOSE to ... I can create a life for myself where these shoes are something I wear at my next speaking event.⠀

(I believe this is CHOICE and CREATION not luck, by the way. I believe that when we are in our zone of brilliance, we can create all sorts of amazing shit.)⠀

I got in the vehicle and for the entire rest of the day my mind was swimming with new ideas for my business, ways in which I can help more female entrepreneurs create their dream lives and possibilities for a totally different path for myself, my family and my business.⠀

Was it the SJP shoes that caused this inspiration and all the new ideas? ⠀

Nope!⠀

It was the FEELING of me stepping into that version of myself - the version of me who WOULD buy those shoes. THAT feeling caused the chain of events that you will see occur in the coming weeks. You see, often it is our mindset that is the ONLY thing that holds us back from the life we desire. If we can change that ... imagine the possibilities.⠀

So ... ⠀

WHAT IF ... we decided to focus forward, to be in control of our future instead of victim to it?⠀

WHAT IF ... we stepped into the million dollar version of ourselves more and “acted as if”?⠀

WHAT IF ... our whole lives could change because we just tried on the fucking shoes?⠀

WHAT IF ...?
