 Hey girl, hey!

October is here and that means ... Halloween is coming up!  (and Taylor Swift's album release, of course)



I think this is the cutest way to decorate a nice big tree in your yard ... except I don't have a big tree ... DANGGGG!  

COFFEE TALK 

How often have you seen something on social media, youtube or listened to a podcast that seemed extraordinary ... only to find out it was fake?

Is this downtown Vancouver in September?  Montreal?  Surrey?  Burnaby?


 
Nope ... it's freakin AI.

These days you can watch someone's lips moving, saying things you THINK they may say on a random TikTok video ... and it very well could be computer generated.  

I could have an assistant use ChatGPT to write up a podcast script for me.  Then she could use another platform to listen to some of my past recordings and spit out MY VOICE "reading" the script and post it on my podcast without me having ANYTHING to do with it.

Isn't that WILD?

I mean ... what AI can do is nothing short of a miracle buuuuuut ...

... the more pictures, posts, videos, books, audios that are crafted like this ... the LESS we trust in others, the more skeptical we become.

Of everything and everyone.

Do I use ChatGPT at times?  YES - I love it for ideas, research and tarot interpretations actually ... but I author my own stuff.  It's important to me that I do (and that you know you can trust that what I write here... is ME).  

You have good things to say and creative genius that needs to be unleashed on the world.  I hope you use AI to aide you and not to BE you.  

WHAT (or who) INSPIRES ME

This past month I started a new at-home reformer-esque pilates workout called Belle Vitale with Autumn Calabrese.  YES ... I still love Beachbody (now called Bodi) workouts!  There's something extra magical about being able to workout in my basement in my pj's pants.


Autumn and I in 2014 in Las Vegas after she had released her first workout program with Beachbody (21 Day Fix).  She is the SWEETEST thing (and super teeny).


Now ... in her workouts, she often will spout off random motivational quotes.  She believesit's really important that you stretch your mind as well.  To be honest, in most of her prior programs, the quotes she chose were really common and randomly thrown in there, to the point at which they sounded so cheesy I wanted to turn the sound off.

HOWEVER ... in Belle Vitale I have literally paused the video so that I could write down some of the things she has said, I loved them so much.   You'll see a few of them on my social media, tweaked to be in my words ... but inspired by her.

Here's a few of my faves:

"You cant shame yourself into change ... you have to love yourself into it."

"Excuses make today easier and tomorrow more difficult."

"It wont happen overnight … but it won't happen AT ALL if you quit"

Here's another one that was inspired by something she said, but I put it into MY words.  



Isn't it good??

Now, thinking or being positive isn't just something that's nice to do.  There is a TON of research that proves your thoughts have the power to change everything. 



But here's the thing ... our mind just naturally leans to the negative.  We ruminate on the past, we fear the future and we whine about the present.  

But we don't have to ... and in fact if we want to be happier and healthier, our 24/7 job is to INTENTIONALLY switch our thoughts from negative to positive (if we can) or negative to neutral (at minimum.)



And here's the thing ... as you are reading this I will guarantee that the majority of you will be saying to yourself "Yah ... but it's not that EASY".



... and if you did ... you get to shift THAT negative thought first.  ;)

Start with just being VERY aware of the chatter you have going on in your mind as well as the things you say out loud.  Then commit to stopping that thought and immediately saying THREE things you're grateful for.

Do this every time you have a negative thought.

Now ... will you do it?  If you want to be happier and healthier ... you should.




FENG SHUI TIP OF THE MONTH

When I sit in any restaurant or coffee shop or ... anywhere actually ... I try to sit with my back to the wall, farthest from the door with a view of the entrance. My husband would say I’m “prison bitch jumpy” 🤣🤦‍ā™€ļø (quote: Love Guru 2008) but we ALL feel more relaxed in the command position.

While we can’t always have all three (like right now in this coffee shop there are two chicks sitting in my ideal spot) but 2 out of three is better than none!

3.  farthest from the door

FENG SHUI TIP OF THE DAY: we feel safer and our nervous systems are more easily regulated, when we sit (or sleep, or cook) in the “command position”.



COOL SHIT
 
This past month I was getting lost in the scroll of B Sweet Treat Co. out of Lloydminster.    Tamsen (owner/baker) says it's really important to her that all of her cookies be beautiful AND delicious.  I mean .. let's face it, most fancy sugar cookies taste like cardboard after a while, but HERS ... yummmmm.


(aren't these amazing?  They were shipped from Lloydminster to Newfoundland!)

But what I love most is her creativity.  When a customer came to her asking for grad cookies that could somehow integrate the cool sayings that her son would say ... she came up with the most fabulous idea.  Her own version of ... FORTUNE COOKIES









Could you IMAGINE serving cookies at your grad party with all of the things you've said over the years?  UGHHHH I'm just obsessed with these!  Stay tuned ... she has some more cool things coming up in the next few months.

TASTY SHIT 

We've made a lot of tasty shit this past month as I've been focusing a lot on cleaning up my diet.  More vegetables, lean protein, hearty grains and none of the "fun" stuff that screws up our gut health ... like sugar, dairy, alcohol, gluten, soy ...

This recipe was SUPER tasty, healthy and really unique.  I hope you like it.

California Quinoa Salad w/ mango, coconut and edamame




Salad

1 cup uncooked quinoa, rinsed *
1-3/4 low sodium broth
1 medium ripe mango, peeled and diced
3/4 cup frozen shelled edamame, thawed
3/4 cup diced red bell pepper
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1/2 cup dried currants or chopped raisins
1/2 cup finely minced onions
1/2 cup unsweetened flaked coconut
3 tbsp minced fresh cilantro

Dressing

2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice
1 tbsp white balsamic vinegar (or dark if that's all you've got)
2 tsp honey (or pure maple syrup)
sea salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

Combine quinoa and broth in a medium pot.  Bring to a boil over high heat.  Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 12 to 15 minutes or until quinoa is tender and liquid has been absorbed.  Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 10 minutes.  Cool completely. 

In a large bowl, stir together cooled quinoa, mango, edamame, bell peppers, almonds, currants, onions, coconut and cilantro.  Set aside.

In a small bowl, whisk together oil, lime juice, vinegar and honey.  Pour over salad and mix well.  Add salt and pepper to taste and mix again.  Chill until cold.  

Makes about 6 cups of salad.


Our Tips and Tweaks:

~ I've only made this once so I don't have too many tweaks yet, BUUUUT I think adding a bit of chopped avocado to this would be OHHHH so good.  
~ if you don't have broth, water to make the quinoa works too ... the broth makes it tastier though!
