"that one thing"

Oct 30, 2018

I started reading a lot of self-help books in my teens and through University.   I loved to spend time looking for them in the libraries.  Yes, that's all we had before "the information highway" emerged, resulting in Facebook Lives, podcasts, IGTV and YouTube.  It's CRAZY how much information we have access to these days.

This summer while driving, I was listening to a podcast about personal development and how to benefit the most from it.  The podcaster (Kathrin Zenkina of Manifestation Babe) talked about people who invest their time or money into some type of personal development but end up disappointed in the outcome.

She said that when she participates in ANY type of PD (whether that be purchasing a book or attending an expensive live event maybe), she always looks for "that one thing" - the point, the sentence, the paragraph, the chapter, "that one thing" that makes a difference in her life.  She said that as soon as she finds it, she immediately is thrilled because "that one thing" that she learns, becomes a life changer.  It's like once she finds it, she is thrilled because it means that the money she has spent is worth it.

As she spoke, I realized that I've always done the same thing.  Every book I read with a highlighter and I'm excited when I can highlight a few sentences that have specific meaning to me that I want to remember forever.  Podcasts are harder to highlight lol, but I do try to remember the statements that stood out as pivotal to me, and then immediately type into the notes section of my iPhone when I am able to stop whatever I'm doing.

Today on a call with my business coach and some powerhouse entrepreneurs, I had this revelation.  It was "that one thing" of the call and I will guarantee that it is something I will take with me forever.

"My fear ... is not real"

I realized in that very moment, and despite the fact that I had always believed that I'm not a person paralyzed by fear ... I had been holding myself back because of it.  Wow.  How long had I been carrying this shit around for?  How long have I allowed irrational fears and bullshit thoughts to hold me back?

This realization was truly eye opening for me.  I started to see how these seemingly innocuous fears led to lacklustre results and projects that are 90% completed (abandoned because at 90% I realized that it wasn't perfect).   I begun to see how I played small in my life until now, despite the fact that I have big goals that I truly believe I am meant to accomplish.

Today ... that one thing changed the way I see myself.

Today, I have decided that I am going to embrace imperfection (no more 90%).

Today, I decided that I am going to work in flow, listen to my intuition and stop overthinking.

Today, I decided that I am going to help other women do the same.

Today, that one thing, changed my life forever.

Pretty.  Fuckin.  Awesome.

p.s. Got "that one thing" that has been a life changer?   I'd LOVE to know what it is!!   How cool if we could share it with others???
